  • Here are tips for freezing food so it lasts. While the freezer is the answer for extending the life of nearly any food, it's not always the best option.

According to the article on Yahoo Lifestyle, there are six foods that should never be frozen due to their high water content or delicate nature, which can lead to undesirable texture and flavor changes upon thawing. These foods include: 1) Lettuce and other leafy greens - freezing causes the cell walls to break down, resulting in a mushy texture; 2) Dairy products like yogurt and sour cream - they can separate and become watery; 3) Fried foods - the freezing process causes them to lose their crispiness; 4) Soft cheeses - they can become crumbly and lose their creamy texture; 5) Mayonnaise and other emulsified sauces - freezing can cause them to break and separate; and 6) Raw eggs in the shell - they can crack and potentially cause contamination. The article advises that while some of these foods can be frozen if used in cooked dishes, they should not be frozen in their raw or unprocessed state.
