The $8 million, 22,000 sq. ft. facility is a major upgrade for a Lake County food pantry that said it served 1.6 million meals last year.
The Lake Cares food pantry in Leesburg, Florida, has significantly expanded its operations by moving into a new, much larger facility, effectively tripling its size. This expansion was driven by the increased demand for food assistance, which has seen a rise from serving 300 families a week to 600 families. The new location not only offers more space but also includes a commercial kitchen, enabling the pantry to provide hot meals. The move was supported by a $1.5 million grant from Lake County, reflecting the community's commitment to addressing food insecurity. The larger facility is expected to enhance the pantry's ability to serve the growing number of people in need, particularly as food prices continue to rise.
