  • Sudden cardiac arrest remains one of the most deadly health events in the U.S., claiming almost 500,000 lives each year. But surprising new research suggests drinking champagne and white wine could help lower your risk.

A study from the Netherlands suggests that drinking champagne and white wine in moderation could lower the risk of sudden cardiac arrest by 38%, according to research presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress. The study, which analyzed data from over 20,000 cases, found that light to moderate alcohol consumption, particularly of wine, was associated with a reduced risk of sudden cardiac death. Specifically, consuming one to three glasses of champagne or white wine per day was linked to this protective effect, while beer and spirits did not show the same benefit. The researchers noted that the antioxidants in wine might contribute to heart health, but they emphasized the importance of moderation, as excessive alcohol consumption can have detrimental effects on health.
