  • Eating about a dozen servings of ultraprocessed food each day could more than double your risk of developing Parkinson's disease, according to a new study.

A study published in the journal Obesity has found a link between the consumption of ultraprocessed foods and early signs of cardiovascular disease in children, specifically noting increased carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity, which indicates stiffer arteries. The research, conducted on 1,458 children aged 10 to 17 in the U.S., showed that those who consumed the highest amounts of ultraprocessed foods had significantly higher pulse wave velocity compared to those who consumed the least. Ultraprocessed foods, which include items like hot dogs, sodas, and packaged snacks, make up a significant portion of the American diet, with children consuming about 60% of their calories from these sources. The study suggests that reducing the intake of ultraprocessed foods could be beneficial for cardiovascular health in young people.
