New community center planned with hopes of bringing affordable, fresh food to west Louisville

  • The new food center was made possible by the Park DuValle Community Health Centers McKenzie Scott Endowment, which was established from an investment by the McKenzie Scott Foundation.

A new community center is being planned in west Louisville with the goal of providing affordable fresh food to the area, which has been identified as a food desert. The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, in partnership with the Norton Healthcare Foundation and the Food Literacy Project, aims to address food insecurity by establishing a grocery store within the center. The project, which is still in its early stages, will also include educational programs on nutrition and cooking, as well as a community garden. The initiative is part of a broader effort to improve health outcomes and quality of life in west Louisville, where access to fresh produce and healthy food options has been limited.
