The items had been part of William Cleverley Alexander's family collection for more than 100 years.
A rare Chinese vase and wine pitcher, originally purchased for $25 at a Goodwill store in Richmond, Virginia, were auctioned off for a combined total of $146,665. The items, dating back to the 18th century, were part of a collection from the Qianlong Emperor's court. The vase, adorned with famille rose enamels and depicting a scene from the Chinese legend "The Red Cliff," sold for $122,500, while the wine pitcher, featuring a dragon and phoenix, fetched $24,165. The auction took place at the Neue Auctions in Beachwood, Ohio, and the pieces were authenticated by an expert in Asian art, highlighting their historical and artistic significance.
