  • At least 10 people in the U.S. have been sickened in a listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat food products, and a producer is voluntarily recalling several products.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported an outbreak of listeria linked to prepared foods, resulting in 16 illnesses and one death across 14 states. The outbreak, which began in August 2023, has been traced back to products from Fresh Ideation Food Group LLC, leading to a recall of over 400 food items sold under various brand names in several states. The affected products, which include sandwiches, salads, snacks, and yogurt, were distributed to retailers like Kroger and ShopRite, and have "sell by" dates ranging from January 31 to February 6, 2024. The CDC advises consumers to check their refrigerators for these recalled items and to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Listeria can cause severe illness, particularly in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems, with symptoms including fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues.
