  • The FDA plans to phase out several artificial food dyes, affecting popular brands such as Skittles, Mountain Dew and Lucky Charms.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a 2024 presidential candidate, has called for a ban on certain food dyes and other ingredients, citing health concerns. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Kennedy criticized the use of Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2, and Green 3, along with other substances like brominated vegetable oil and potassium bromate, which he claims are linked to hyperactivity, nervous system damage, and cancer. He specifically mentioned that these dyes are found in popular products such as Skittles, Nerds, and Mountain Dew, and argued that they should be removed from the food supply to protect public health. Kennedy's stance aligns with recent actions in California, where a law banning these ingredients in food products is set to take effect in 2027.
