Food banks scrambling as Trump administration cancels deliveries

  • Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and local meal programs, was recently informed that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is canceling $500 million in federal funding.

Food banks across the United States are facing significant challenges after the Trump administration abruptly canceled planned food deliveries that were part of the Farmers to Families Food Box program, set to end on December 31, 2020. This sudden cancellation has left food banks scrambling to find alternative sources of food to meet the increased demand caused by the ongoing economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program, which was designed to help farmers and food banks, had been delivering millions of food boxes to food-insecure families. The cancellation has led to concerns about food insecurity, especially as many food banks were relying on these deliveries to supplement their supplies during the holiday season.
