  • The Department of Health and Human Services and the Food and Drug Administration announced on Tuesday a series of measures to phase out eight artificial food dyes.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent presidential candidate, has announced plans to phase out artificial food dyes in the U.S., citing their potential link to behavioral issues in children, such as hyperactivity and ADHD. Kennedy's proposal includes a ban on seven specific dyes—Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, and Red 3—within his first year in office, if elected. He argues that these chemicals, which are already banned in several countries including the European Union, pose significant health risks and that their use in food products is driven by corporate profits rather than consumer safety. Kennedy's campaign emphasizes a broader initiative to overhaul food safety regulations and protect public health from what he describes as harmful additives.
