  • Eating about a dozen servings of ultraprocessed food each day could more than double your risk of developing Parkinson's disease, according to a new study.

A recent study published in the journal "Neurology" has found a significant association between the consumption of ultraprocessed foods and an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease. The research, which followed over 100,000 participants for more than a decade, showed that individuals who consumed the highest amounts of ultraprocessed foods had a 32% higher risk of Parkinson's compared to those who consumed the least. Ultraprocessed foods, which include items like packaged snacks, sugary drinks, and ready-to-eat meals, are typically high in added sugars, fats, and artificial ingredients. The study's lead author emphasized the need for further research to understand the underlying mechanisms but suggested that reducing the intake of these foods could be a beneficial step in lowering the risk of this neurodegenerative disorder.
