  • As you add more ultraprocessed foods to your diet, your risk of a premature death from any cause rises.

A study published in the British Medical Journal has found that consuming large amounts of ultra-processed foods, such as soft drinks, packaged snacks, and ready-to-eat meals, can increase the risk of premature death. The research, which followed over 100,000 health professionals for 30 years, showed that individuals with the highest intake of ultra-processed foods had a 4% higher risk of death from any cause compared to those with the lowest intake. Specifically, the study linked higher consumption of these foods to increased risks of death from cardiovascular diseases and Type 2 diabetes. The findings suggest that reducing the intake of ultra-processed foods and opting for healthier, less processed alternatives could help lower the risk of early mortality.
