Alabama lawmaker says government 'sold out' in allowing artificial food dyes in our nation's food supply

The legislation, unlikely to pass because it was filed late in the session, would define and ban ultra-processed foods from being served in public schools receiving federal assistance for its meal programs, which, according to the Alabama State Department of Education, is every district in the state except for Mountain Brook Schools and Pike Road Schools.

Alabama State Representative Mary Moore expressed strong opposition to the use of artificial food dyes in the nation's food supply, arguing that the government has "sold out" by allowing these additives. During a recent press conference, Moore highlighted the potential health risks associated with artificial dyes, including hyperactivity in children and an increased risk of cancer. She called for stricter regulations and urged consumers to be more aware of the ingredients in their food. Moore's statements come amid growing concerns over food safety and the influence of large food corporations on government policies.
