World Food Programme runs out of food stocks in Gaza as aid block persists

  • The World Food Programme said on Friday it had run out of food stocks in Gaza due to the sustained closure of crossings into the enclave, while Gaza authorities said Israeli airstrikes had killed at least 78 people in the past 24 hours. "The WFP has depleted all its food stocks for families in Gaza," a WFP statement said, adding the U.N. agency on Friday delivered its last remaining stocks to hot meals kitchens in Gaza.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has exhausted its food supplies in Yemen, halting aid to 850,000 people amidst a dire humanitarian crisis. This shortage comes at a critical time as Yemen faces the world's worst hunger emergency, with over 17 million people food insecure and 5 million on the brink of famine. The WFP urgently requires $230 million to resume food distributions and is calling for immediate action to prevent further deterioration of the situation. The agency has been forced to prioritize the most vulnerable, but the lack of funds and supplies means many will go without aid, exacerbating the already catastrophic conditions in the country.
