Food stocks in Gaza have run out, says UN food agency

  • Israel cut off entry of all food, fuel, medicine and other supplies to Gaza on March 2 and then resumed its bombardment and ground offensives two weeks later, shattering a two-month ceasefire with Hamas.

The United Nations food agency, the World Food Programme (WFP), has reported that food stocks in Gaza have been completely depleted, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation in the region. The WFP's announcement comes amidst ongoing conflict and a blockade that has severely restricted the flow of essential supplies into Gaza. The agency has urgently called for the opening of humanitarian corridors to allow the delivery of food and other critical aid to the 2.3 million residents of Gaza, many of whom are now facing acute hunger and malnutrition. The situation is particularly alarming for children, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to the effects of food scarcity.
