World Food Programme to reduce food support in Sudan due to funding shortages

The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced a reduction in food rations for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh starting from March 1, 2023, due to a funding shortfall. The WFP needs $125 million to maintain its current level of assistance through 2023, but has only received a fraction of this amount. This cut will reduce the value of the food assistance from $12 to $10 per person per month, impacting the 970,000 Rohingya refugees who rely on this aid. The WFP warns that this reduction could lead to increased malnutrition, particularly among children, and exacerbate tensions within the camps. The organization is urgently appealing for more funding to prevent further cuts and to continue providing essential support to the Rohingya population.
