  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture has canceled deliveries to food banks nationwide. Truckloads of vital food will no longer be arriving at Second Harvest.

The Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville, Tennessee, has been abruptly cut off from receiving vital food deliveries from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which has been a significant source of their food supply. This sudden halt in deliveries, which started in mid-September, has left the food bank struggling to meet the needs of the community, especially as they were expecting to receive 2 million pounds of food per month through the end of the year. The food bank's CEO, Nancy Keil, expressed confusion and frustration over the lack of communication and explanation from the USDA regarding the stoppage, which has forced the organization to seek alternative, more expensive food sources to continue supporting the 46 counties they serve in Middle and West Tennessee.
