The island's wolf population has become increasingly curious about campers' food and garbage left behind, park officials have said.
Isle Royale National Park has introduced new regulations to prevent wolves from accessing campers' food, following incidents where wolves became habituated to human food sources. The new rules mandate that all food and scented items must be stored in hard-sided containers or hung at least 10 feet above the ground and 4 feet horizontally from any tree trunk. Campers are also required to keep a clean campsite and dispose of waste properly to avoid attracting wildlife. These measures aim to protect both the wolves and visitors by reducing the risk of dangerous encounters and preserving the wolves' natural foraging behaviors.
