US President Donald Trump brandished a stack of printed articles at the White House Wednesday that he claimed documented a genocide taking place against white people in South Africa.

In a tweet, former President Donald Trump displayed a visual from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as evidence of a supposed genocide in South Africa, mistakenly using an image from a different country and context. The image, which showed a black man being burned alive, was actually from a 2010 incident in the DRC where a man was accused of witchcraft and lynched by a mob. Trump's tweet, which also mentioned the issue of farm seizures and the expropriation of land from white farmers in South Africa, was criticized for spreading misinformation and fueling racial tensions. South African government officials and fact-checkers quickly debunked the claim, emphasizing that the image had no connection to South Africa and that the narrative of a genocide against white farmers was unfounded.
