An Unsettling, New Study Reveals That Some Fast Food Workers 'Can't Afford to Eat the Meals They Serve'

A study published in the journal Nature Food has revealed that fast food restaurants, particularly those selling burgers, fried chicken, and pizza, are disproportionately located in neighborhoods with lower life expectancies in the United States. The research, conducted by Tufts University, analyzed the locations of over 67,000 fast food outlets and found that areas with the highest concentrations of these establishments had life expectancies up to 15 years lower than neighborhoods with fewer fast food options. The study suggests that the easy access to unhealthy food in these areas contributes to poor diet quality and higher rates of obesity, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions, exacerbating health disparities across different socioeconomic groups.
