The Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry said growing demand, high prices and imminent shortages are straining local resources. It is calling out for community support so it can continue to help Bastrop County families.

The Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry is preparing for a potential increase in demand due to the impending end of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) emergency allotments on February 28, 2023. The pantry, which has been serving the community for over 30 years, is expecting a rise in the number of families seeking assistance as the additional SNAP benefits, implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, are set to expire. The pantry's executive director, Kathy Brown, expressed concerns about the impact on families already struggling with rising food prices and inflation, and emphasized the importance of community support and donations to help meet the growing need.
