  • Public consultation for a proposal to raise maximum residue limits closes at 5pm on Friday.

New Zealand Food Safety is proposing to increase the maximum residue limits (MRLs) for certain insecticides and pesticides in food, aligning them with international standards set by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. This change aims to facilitate trade by ensuring that New Zealand's MRLs are consistent with those of major trading partners. The proposal includes adjustments for substances like chlorpyrifos, diazinon, and methomyl, and is open for public consultation until 5pm on 23 June. The adjustments are based on scientific assessments that consider dietary exposure and potential health risks, ensuring that the limits remain safe for consumers.
