Healthy, affordable food options are coming to Detroit as part of new program

A new initiative in Detroit, supported by a $22.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, aims to enhance access to healthy and affordable food options. Spearheaded by the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) and the Detroit Health Department, the program will fund the establishment of a food hub, a commercial kitchen, and a grocery store in the city. These facilities are intended to support local food entrepreneurs and increase the availability of nutritious food in areas identified as food deserts. The initiative also includes plans for nutrition education and support for local farmers, aiming to improve overall community health and stimulate economic development in Detroit.
