  • Scrape for the Grape volunteers scraped an estimated millions of spotted lanternfly eggs to reduce the insect's impact on rural industries.

The Scrape and Grape event, returning to Loudoun County on September 23, aims to combat the invasive spotted lanternfly while offering participants a fun, community-driven experience. Hosted by the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy in collaboration with local wineries, the event encourages volunteers to scrape the egg masses of the spotted lanternfly, an insect that threatens local agriculture and ecosystems. After the scraping activity, participants can enjoy a grape-themed celebration at participating wineries, which include Greenhill Winery, 8 Chains North Winery, and Zephaniah Farm Vineyard. The event not only helps control the spread of the invasive species but also promotes community engagement and supports local businesses.
