Food bank seeing 'steady increase' in demand

Trussell Trust figures show nearly 245,000 emergency food parcels were given to West Midlands families last year.

The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina has experienced a steady increase in demand for food assistance, serving over 600,000 people monthly across its 34-county service area. This surge is attributed to the end of additional SNAP benefits and the rising cost of living, which have strained household budgets. The food bank's CEO, Beth Gaglione, highlighted the critical situation, noting that many families are forced to choose between buying food or paying for other essential expenses. To address the growing need, the food bank is seeking more donations and volunteers, while also advocating for policy changes to support food-insecure communities.
