Hamas executes looters in Gaza as food crisis worsens under Israeli blockade

Hamas has executed a number of alleged looters after several incidents in which heavily armed gangs attacked food stores and community kitchens in the Gaza Strip this week, sources close to the Palestinian militant group said. Hamas officials have accused some of the looters of working in collaboration with Israel, which has sealed off aid from entering Gaza for the past two months. Israel has not commented on the allegation.

Tyson Foods reformulates food products to eliminate synthetic dyes, CEO says

Tyson Foods has been "proactively reformulating" food products containing petroleum-based synthetic dyes and plans to finish work to eliminate them from its production process by the end of May, CEO Donnie King said on Monday. Most of the meat company's retail-branded products, including Tyson chicken nuggets, do not contain those types of dyes, King said on an earnings call. U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said last month that the agency plans to remove synthetic dyes from the U.S. supply by revoking authorizations of some and working with the industry to voluntarily remove others.

World food prices increase in April, UN's FAO says

Global food commodity prices increased in April, driven by higher cereal, meat and dairy product prices that outweighed falls in sugar and vegetable oils, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization said on Friday. The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks monthly changes in a basket of internationally traded food commodities, averaged 128.3 points in April, up 1% versus the March estimate of 127.1 points. The April reading was also 7.6% higher than the same month a year ago but 19.9% below a March 2022 peak reached following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Two people hospitalized in Edenton Food Lion shooting

Two people have been taken to the hospital following a shooting at an Edenton Food Lion on Sunday evening.

On November 11, 2023, two individuals were hospitalized following a food truck explosion in Edenton, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Broad Street and Virginia Road. The explosion resulted in a fire that was quickly extinguished by the Edenton Fire Department. The victims, who were inside the food truck at the time of the explosion, were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation by local authorities.
