A food pantry in Chicago's South Side was forced to close temporarily after a car crashed into its building on January 10, 2023, causing significant damage. The incident occurred when a driver, who was later cited for not reducing speed to avoid an accident, lost control of her vehicle and smashed into the Chosen Tabernacle Church and Food Pantry. No injuries were reported, but the pantry, which serves around 300 families weekly, had to suspend operations. The church's pastor expressed hope that the pantry could resume services soon, emphasizing the community's reliance on the food distribution. The building's structural integrity is being assessed, and repairs are expected to take several weeks.
