Attention, Pittsburgh-area organic food shoppers. Look for selection to shrink and for store shelves to at least start to go bare on select items in the wake of a cyberattack on the largest organic food distributor in the United States, Rhode Island-based United Natural Foods Inc. (NYSE: UNFI), Amazon's primary food supplier for Whole Foods Market that counts more than 30,000 grocery stores throughout the country as customers.
A cyberattack on United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI), one of the largest wholesale grocery distributors in the U.S., has caused significant disruptions to its operations, affecting the supply chain and leading to product shortages at grocery stores across the country. The attack, which was detected on April 25, 2023, has impacted UNFI's ability to process orders and make deliveries, prompting the company to take its systems offline to contain the breach. UNFI is working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and restore its systems, while also notifying law enforcement and relevant authorities. The company has not yet determined if any customer, employee, or supplier data was compromised during the attack.
