United Natural Foods limited shipping to retailers and shut down its systems this week due to "unauthorized activity."
A cyberattack on the major grocery distributor United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) has led to significant disruptions in the supply chain, resulting in empty shelves at several grocery stores including Whole Foods and New Seasons in the Pacific Northwest. The attack, which occurred on June 1, 2025, compromised UNFI's IT systems, forcing the company to shut down operations temporarily to contain the breach. This has caused delays in deliveries and stock shortages, particularly affecting perishable goods. Both Whole Foods and New Seasons are working with UNFI to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as quickly as possible, while also exploring alternative suppliers to mitigate the impact on customers.
