As of last Thursday, traveling for inspections is no longer a requirement. The Austin City Council approved on consent a new ordinance that allows inspectors to conduct inspections at the food truck's location.

The city of Austin, Texas, has revised its inspection policies for short-term rentals (STRs) following a shooting incident at a party held at an STR, which resulted in two deaths. The new policy mandates that all STRs must be inspected within 90 days of receiving a license, and annually thereafter, to ensure compliance with city codes and safety standards. This change aims to enhance safety and accountability, addressing concerns raised by the community about the impact of STRs on neighborhood safety. The city's move is part of a broader effort to regulate the STR market more effectively, balancing the economic benefits of tourism with the need to protect residents.
