U.S. agriculture officials are warning that packages of ground beef sold at Whole Foods markets may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria

On July 29, 2023, an alert was issued by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services regarding a potential E. coli contamination in ground beef purchased from Whole Foods Market in Merrimack, NH. The affected product is the "Whole Foods Market Beef Ground 85/15" with a "use/freeze by" date of June 28, 2023, and a lot code of 22365. This alert was prompted by a confirmed case of E. coli in a Massachusetts resident who consumed the product. The Department advises anyone who purchased this specific ground beef to not consume it and to either discard it or return it to the store for a full refund. Symptoms of E. coli infection include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, and can lead to serious health issues, particularly in young children and the elderly.
