Elijah Travis Mackey, a 22-year-old employee at a Checkers restaurant in Osceola County, Florida, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting and killing a customer, Jose Valliant, over a dispute about a food order on January 16, 2024. The incident occurred after Valliant, who had been waiting for his order, became upset and threw food at Mackey, leading to a physical altercation. Mackey then reportedly retrieved a gun from his car and shot Valliant multiple times, resulting in his death at the scene. Mackey fled but was later apprehended by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, who condemned the violence and emphasized that such disputes should never escalate to deadly force.
