The federal government is taking a bite out of funding. The United States Department of Agriculture has cut money from flowing into two main programs.
The Central Texas Food Bank experienced a significant setback when a fire destroyed a warehouse containing 1.3 million pounds of food, valued at $750,000, which was intended for distribution to those in need. The fire, which occurred on a Saturday, was reported at around 5:30 p.m. and was contained within an hour, but not before causing extensive damage to the facility. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The food bank, which serves 21 counties and supports over 200 partner agencies, is now facing challenges in meeting the increased demand for food assistance, especially as the holiday season approaches. The organization is appealing for donations and volunteers to help replenish their supplies and continue their mission of fighting hunger in the community.
