Indianapolis is gearing up for a vibrant fusion of music and culture with the inaugural Indy Wine & R&B (WNR) event, scheduled for Saturday, June 15th, at Indianapolis City Market. This unique festival promises an evening filled with soulful rhythms, exceptional wines, delicious food, and a celebration of Black artistry and entrepreneurship. More than just a typical concert or wine tasting, WNR aims to create a memorable experience that caters to diverse tastes while fostering community connection.

The brainchild of local businesswoman and event planner, Tiffany “Tee” Johnson, Indy Wine & R&B was born from a desire to fill a void in the Indianapolis entertainment scene. "I noticed there wasn't an event specifically catering to the Black community that combined high-quality wine with live music," explains Johnson. "We wanted to create something sophisticated and fun, where people could relax, enjoy great sounds, and discover new wines."

A Stellar Lineup of R&B Talent:

The musical heart of WNR lies in its impressive lineup of R&B artists. Headlining the event is Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger, known for his smooth vocals and relatable lyrics. He’ll be joined by rising star Luke James, whose powerful voice and charismatic stage presence have quickly garnered him a dedicated following. Rounding out the musical acts are local favorites including DJ Shanti D and emerging talent Keke Wyckoff, ensuring a diverse range of R&B sounds to keep attendees grooving all night long.

The selection wasn't arbitrary; Johnson emphasizes her commitment to showcasing Black artists. "It was important for us to highlight talented musicians from our community and beyond," she states. The goal is not just entertainment but also providing a platform for these artists to connect with a wider audience.

A Curated Selection of Wines:

Complementing the musical performances is a carefully curated selection of wines, showcasing both established vineyards and emerging Black-owned wineries. Attendees can expect a variety of options, from crisp whites and refreshing rosés to robust reds, catering to different palates and preferences. Several local wine vendors will be on hand to offer tastings and provide information about their selections.

The inclusion of Black-owned wineries is particularly significant for Johnson. "We wanted to support Black entrepreneurs in the wine industry," she explains. “It’s a chance to introduce people to wines they might not otherwise encounter, while also supporting businesses that are often overlooked.” Details on specific participating wineries can be found on the event's website (linked below).

Beyond Music and Wine: A Community Celebration:

Indy WNR isn’t solely about music and wine; it's designed to be a community celebration. The Indianapolis City Market, with its historic charm and central location, provides the perfect backdrop for this vibrant gathering. Food vendors will offer a range of culinary delights, ensuring there's something to satisfy every craving.

The event also aims to foster networking opportunities and create a space for connection within the Black community. Johnson hopes WNR will become an annual tradition, bringing people together year after year. "We want this to be more than just one night; we want it to be a catalyst for building relationships and supporting Black businesses," she says.

Indy Wine & R&B takes place on Saturday, June 15th, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the Indianapolis City Market (20 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis).
