The Waldport Area Fire District is facing potential layoffs of three firefighters and one administrator if a proposed levy fails in the upcoming May 20, 2025 election. The levy, which would increase property taxes by $1.25 per $1,000 of assessed value, aims to raise approximately $1.5 million annually to maintain current service levels. Without this funding, the district would be forced to reduce its workforce, leading to slower response times and diminished emergency services. The district has been struggling financially due to increased costs and insufficient revenue from the current tax base, prompting this urgent call for community support to pass the levy.
